Filmmaking for Decision-Makers: A case-study of American Resilience Project’s Tidewater, & The Burden
Join award-winning Director and Founder of American Resilience Project, Roger Sorkin for an evening of film and discussion about the importance of crafting stories that speak clearly to citizens as well as decision-makers and politicians.
Since 2015, American Resilience Project, an innovative hybrid between a nonprofit organization and film production company, has produced films that cut through the partisan divide as vital tools for achieving consensus around considering environmental challenges as ones of national security and economic opportunity,
The Burden (2015) and Tidewater (2017) have been shown at NATO Headquarters, in the White House, on Capitol Hill, at State Houses across the country, and at the NASDAQ Stock Market —in addition to the traditional film festival circuit and public broadcasting. Hear from the Director of both films about how and why his films are made to speak to those in power.

Hampton Roads, Virginia, is home to our highest concentration of military assets in the country, where one in six residents is associated with the military. Their homes, schools, hospitals, and families are increasingly struggling to keep up with the effects of rising waters. The military and the surrounding municipalities are working towards solutions.
This special screening of Tidewater is also part of the University of Delaware's 2018 "Lecture and a Movie" film series. The College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment will host this event at the Main Street Movies 5 cinema at 230 E. Main Street in Newark (in the Newark Shopping Center). A panel discussion will take place following the film featuring oceanography professor Chris Sommerfield, Delaware Sea Grant Marine Advisory Service specialist Danielle Swallow, and Lewes-based photographer Judy Rolfe who was an assistant producer on the film. Sunday, February 25 – Screening of the documentary “Tidewater,” a film that reviews the U.S. military’s readiness amid rising sea levels in Virginia. The movie begins at 2:00 PM in the Giant Screen Theater at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. An informal audience discussion will follow the showing.
Tickets for each film are $10.00 and can be purchased via the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s website via this link. Tickets can also be purchased by phone via: 309-686-7000. Tickets will also be available at the door as long as the screening is not sold out.
Join Defend Our Future as we partner with University House to screen the film Tidewater and discuss the implications of a warming world and national security. The film starts at 6 pm and will be followed by a group discussion.
